Workshop on Relations between Turkey, Russia and Abkhazia

A workshop on the relations between Turkey, Russia and Abkhazia, organized by Kafsam, was held in Ankara on January 26, 2018.

The speakers of the workshop, Prof.Dr. Mitat Çelikpala (Kadir Has University), Prof.Dr. Atilla Eralp (METU) and Hasan Kanbolat (Head of the Ankara Policy Center) discussed the drivers of the relations between Turkey, Russia and Abkhazia.

The workshop was attended by the members of the Executive Board of the Federation of the Caucasian Associations (Kaffed) and the members of Kafsam.

The first session of the workshop was focused on Turkish-Russian relations. The speakers emphasized that Turkish-Russian relations in the short and medium-term will be determined by developments in Syria. The second session has focused on the effects of Turkish_Russian relations on the Caucasian republics, with a special emphasis on Abkhazia. The speakers stated that the world is being evolved towards a multi-polar system where the non-goverment actors are likely to play an  important role, and populist/radical/authoritarian movements get stronger. Under these conditions, the Circassian NGOs should review their limits and capabilities, protect their independence neutrality, and operate at the micro level so as to consolidate their structures.
